Junior Programmers Group

“To lead people, walk beside them … As for the best leaders, the people do not notice their existence. The next best, the people honor and praise. The next, the people fear; and the next, the people hate … When the best leader’s work is done the people say, ‘We did it ourselves!”
Lao-Tsu

I started my days at NDDU as an ordinary student wanting to have a degree of my own. When I enrolled at NDDU, I never taught of having got involved in any activities which will enhance my Leadership skill though I believe in, Leadership is innate to every person. At first, I was elected as a first year representative of the computer age society (CAS), then, I learn how to be a leader by having participated actively in all club activities. I started to open my eyes in the promising world of leadership.

As I continue to grow as leader, I find myself interested in extra curricular activities. I develop the desire to be involved much on the community. When I heard about Junior Programmers Group (JPG), I urge myself to be a part of the Club. I started as an active member, and then later I was elected as secretary of the JPG. The time when I was in the position, I realize that a good leader should not just embodied the desire to lead and motivate the group but it is very important to work and set as an example for the whole group to be mobilized. At those points of time, I learned how to value every simple or great, one or many achievements, contributions and involvements of each member of the club.

When I reached my 3rd year college, I was elected as the JPG Vice President. This point of time requires most of my time; it requires me to devote myself to the club. Even though, I am a student and at the same time a club leader, I manage to balance my academic and extra curricular activities.

As I reached my 4th year college, I also reached the highest position of being a leader. I was elected as the JPG Club President. For me, being a club president is also like being a career person in whom it requires all of my time, efforts, compassion and knowledge. Although, JPG is a small group which composes of few members yet for me, it is very challenging to run a group with limited resources (Both financial and Human Resources). It is not very easy for me to handle the club since it works more on the community. Although the club had already establish activities for the community such as computer literacy programs. Like any other leader, I also set my objective for the betterment of the club as general, of the members, and the community. One great program of the club which I really pursued is the “ Batang Skolar” program by which we give privileges to those poor yet deserving students to pursue their education. The club serves as bridge which looks for a sponsor to the chosen scholars. Fortunately, there are several people whom opted themselves to help and give financial assistance.

Although, recognitions such as awards would not determine you of how are as a leader but then it made me proud to think that in my term as JPG president, the club, Junior Programmers Group won as the “ Outstanding Extra Curricular Club 2008). And I was nominated as one of the outstanding club leader of the year and at the same time; I was nominated as Technology Awardees.

As I summed up my learning’s as a Leader, I come to realize that a good leader is a good follower. As a leader, it is not always follow that your voice must be heard and followed. It should always “lead by example” for which the members sees in you the capabilities of being the head of the group. One of the important learning also is, a good leader doesn’t rate him/her on how much efforts of contribution he/she exerted but on how big/small is the impact of its work to the community and his/her own selves also. Furthermore, I had realized that being a leader requires me to grow as a person. It is an unending development which requires me to learn for every experience I had encountered.

As I end my service to JPG… let me give Emphasis and appreciation to the following individuals whom I owe my success as a Leader and as a person…

To sir dhoy, for his love, concerns and aspirations which mold me as a leader and as a person… for his unending support and treasured suggestions which helped me to see the right path… for the gift of friendship he had showered on me…
